Authorities in northern Vietnam have urged people working at a unit of Samsung Display within the nation to be quarantined after a worker there tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
A 25-year-old worker of the EQC-SI arm of the Samsung Display manufacturing facility in Bac Ninh province tested positive Sunday, in accordance with a statement launched on Monday by the anti-COVID-19 task force of neighboring Bac Giang province.
Parent Samsung Electronics confirmed the case; however, he stated Samsung Display’s manufacturing lines in Vietnam had not been affected.
Nguyen Huong Giang, the chairperson of the People’s Committee of Bac Ninh province, said Monday that 44 individuals at the unit had been quarantined and that the manufacturing facility and buses used to transport workers have been sprayed with disinfectant.
Samsung Electronics is the biggest single foreign investor within the Southeast Asian nation, and its shipments, principally smartphones, account for around a quarter of Vietnam’s exports.
Vietnam’s health ministry has posted 262 COVID-19 cases in the nation, and no deaths so far.
